A Peek at Pine Fair

I have another new construction project that is finishing up and I was able to stop by right before Christmas to check on it.  Pine Fair is a home for a great, young family and I so enjoyed working on it with them.  It's a wonderful mix of traditional design and some slightly modern touches.  There is still lots of cabinetry work and cleaning to do, but it's really close to being complete.  Here are few sneak peeks...

What started out as an idea on the floor of Home Depot...
...turned into this beautiful master shower.

The kitchen is pretty chaotic right now, but hopefully you get the idea.

Stay tuned for final photos...

Final Look at Summer Duck

When a project comes to an end, it's always bitter sweet for me.  I love my work and my clients, so it's hard to say "good-bye".  Summer Duck was one of those projects where I had the best clients who trusted me to guide them through the difficult task of building a new house.  What's even better, they trusted themselves to make some gutsy decisions and pushed through to get them done.  I was able to get over one last time before they moved in and of course, the painters were still there doing last minute touch-ups.  I really wanted to have this house professionally photographed, but it just didn't work out.

This entry foyer is a perfect example of what this room should do.  It welcomes you and gives you a preview of what is to come in this home.
The perfect powder bath.  My client found a cute antique cabinet to use as the vanity.  Just needs a mirror to complement that chicken wire light!

I just don't have the words to describe how wonderful this kitchen turned out.

My client and I spent a lot of time finding the perfect lights.  Here is one of three vintage ones she found over the summer.
The family entry, off the garage, with interior brick pavers and board and batten trim.
Here's a laundry room that took a little effort, but so worth it.  Yes, that light is red!
For the sink, my client found a metal tub and paired it with a wall-mount tub filler.  Genius!
Master bath with wood floors.  My first time doing this on a project and so happy with how it turned out.  With just a little extra care, these should last for years to come.

Another vintage light...
Their son's bathroom turned out so great!  Vintage hexagon tile on the floor, white subway tile in the tub and a blue cabinet.
In my last post about Summer Duck, I promised there would be a red front door.  This is the best photo I could get of that for you.  Oh, and here's the last vintage light.
You can see more photos of Summer Duck on my Houzz profile and I can't wait to share more projects with you after the new year.  I wish you and yours a safe and joyous holiday.  We will continue to cherish our time with family and do our best to remember the real meaning of Christmas!

Summer Duck is Almost Done

When I stopped in to check on my Summer Duck project last week, I couldn't contain my excitement.  There were tons of tradespeople there working, so the photos aren't the best, but hopefully you can see why I am loving this house!

Another example of why I love wallpaper.

I can't wait to show you more photos of this master bath.  There is a freestanding tub, an amazing shower and did you notice we used wood flooring?  BEAUTIFUL!

I'm off to celebrate Thanksgiving.  I'm truly thankful for so much - my son, my family and my clients!  They are truly the reason I love my job so much and can't wait to see what the next day has in store.  I hope you will be surrounded by love and laughter this holiday weekend.

Oh, and WAR EAGLE!

A Modern Farmhouse

A "modern farmhouse" are the words my clients first used in describing to me how they wanted their dream house to look.  It was being built on a beautiful piece of land and was nothing short of heaven on earth.

B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L!

The plans were all done when I came on board, but like any good designer would do, I had to change something and it was the kitchen.  No offense to the original architect, but some serious layout changes had to be made and fast!  Once that was done, it was on to the fun stuff and boy did we have fun.  My clients are an amazing family with three small children.  Our presentation meetings were exciting to say the least and almost always included one of our children.

Now, nine months later they are settled into their home and making memories on a daily basis.  I recently did a photo shoot and wanted to share it with you.  I'm super proud of how this home turned out and look forward to helping them over this next year finish every room.  They are one of those rare clients that you don't ever not want to see their name on your calendar.

Can you find the hidden Mickeys in this tile detail?

Custom log benches I had fabricated for their fire pit outside.  Love these!

A Little Art with Your Dinner

I've been working on a few restaurant projects this summer and thought I would share some photos with my readers.  Both of the restaurants are owned by the same company and they needed some inexpensive updates to the decor.  Both are also located in small, southern towns and were full of oak finished furniture and bead board - which I couldn't change.  I decided to use a theme of "modern country", which I'm pretty sure I made up.

We agreed that removing the existing wallpaper would be done first, then paint, then wall decor.  I'm amazed at the difference those few changes made to the overall feel of the space.  Now, I wait patiently until we can change out flooring, furniture, light fixtures, upholstery, etc....

BEFORE...not much I can say here, but "help!"
AFTER...not only did we remove the wallpaper and paint the walls, we also painted all the ceiling tiles black.  That made a huge difference.  The art I used are actually enlarged photos stretched onto canvas.  I love the simplicity of them.
Detail of the center photo from Sundrenched Photography.
Another way I used photos was by purchasing these ready-made frames from Target and then inserting colorful photos of rural images.  A modern twist on country!
I find myself grimacing as I write this, but I did use a NASCAR theme in the back banquet room.  This restaurant is located in a small Georgia town and they love racing!  This was one of the arrangements I created using inexpensive items.  I ordered the poster online and found the ready-made frame at Hobby Lobby.  Because all the posters were different sizes, I had them make all the mats to give them a more custom look.  The plate was one they already had, I just had our painter spray it black.  Kind of looks like a tire...
BEFORE...yawn!
AFTER...as you can see I kept most everything that was originally there, but added the utensil prints (only $20 each) and colorful accessories to the shelf.  The wallpaper was still up when I installed these, but now it's been painted.
BEFORE...this is the other side of the same room.  All the pieces looked so small.  These guys were really enjoying their dinner!
AFTER...by replacing the smaller pieces on the end with over sized barn photos, it made all the difference.  I also changed out the plates in the existing holder.
There wasn't much I could do to this eyesore, but I will say the future plans involve a lot of drywall!  I found some unique containers at the local antique store and filled them with artificial wildflowers.
Another inexpensive idea I did was using these Pier 1 plates in an organized grouping.  A traditional item used in a modern way!

I've hesitated on whether I wanted to post these because I don't feel like they best represent what I can do as a designer, but what it does show is I can do good work in any conditions.  I was given a lot of parameters, which not only included using what was already there, but spending VERY LITTLE money in VERY LITTLE time.  I honestly felt I was on an episode of Restaurant Impossible.  I'm excited to continue my work with these clients and create a final product we are both proud of!

A little sneak peak at the new fabric we're putting on the booth cushions.
