There's a Chill in the Air...Not!

I was hoping with October finally being here I would open the door this morning to cool air, but instead today has been a muggy disappointment!  I'm so ready for fall and since Tallahassee isn't exactly known for its seasons, I say "bring it on!".

Around our house, the biggest holiday of the fall is Halloween.  Wes starts talking about his costume in August and continually changes his mind until mid-October.  The costume du jour is a dementor from Harry Potter.  If you're not familiar, here he is.  As you can guess, I'm hoping we'll have a few more "costume changes" before we settle on the final choice.

I also love planting my fall flowers, putting out fresh pine straw and figuring out how to make my front yard not look like a haunted house.  It's a thin line, but I try.  Here are some great decorating ideas I have been pinning and honestly hope to try a few.  If I do, you'll be the first to know.  If you're interested, here's my Pinterest link to get more details on the photos below.

Wes would definitely be excited to see this in our yard!

So for now, I'll just keep my air conditioning turned way down and keep waiting for fall.

My Other Life

Twice a year, for eight straight days, I put on a different "hat" and become a partner in a seasonal children's consignment sale called The One Week Boutique.  If you're not familiar with this type of event and you have children - then you need to learn about it!  These sales are all over the country and are a great way to purchase gently used children's clothing, toys, books and baby equipment at rock bottom prices!  

Beginning on a Sunday, for three full days, we check in and inspect over 60,000 items.  We fill up a former Goody's store at our local mall to give you an idea of what 60,000 items look like in one space.  Then, we open the doors and try our best to sell everything in four days.  It's a feat and unless you are part of it, you can't imagine the logistics that go in to make it work. 

I have four amazing partners with mad skills.  I describe us like spokes in a wheel, we each bring something very important to the business and together it works great.  We all have jobs, kids and pets, but we also have supportive families that rally around us each sale.  We apologize to our children in advance for being absentee parents and feeding them crappy food every night, but I think being able to shop the toy section each day helps soften the blow.

October 2013 Update...we have now upgraded our space to a former Dillard's department store.  It's way more space, but we're so happy to have found it.  Come see us!
